Thursday, May 24
I am writing to ask my Minneapolis friends if anybody would be interested in hosting a small music circle, this coming Thursday, May 24, with the reasonable expectation that quite likely it will end by 10:30 or so and we can get some sleep. A friend of mine, Phil "tigertoy" Parker, will be coming through the Twin Cities. He has arranged for a place to sleep that night. Louie and I, having gone three years without throwing a housewarming party, have finally realized that without even one room in the house being big enough for more than two or three people with guitars, we can't throw the kind of party we want to throw in any event. So we're asking friends, if they/you have room for a circle from 7 to 10:30 or so, if you have the inclination. I am pretty sure that anybody likely to say "yes" to this question knows how to locate my phone number (with the exception that my work number on the Minn-stf phone list has been obsolete for a couple of months now, while I train for a new job). Phil plays 12-string guitar and sings, but is not acquainted with most of the Twin Cities musical community. Thanks in advance for your help.
While I'm thinking of it -- does anybody own a copy of the album by a more-or-less acid-rock group from 1968 or so, H. P. Lovecraft? Actually, there were several albums, one called just *Lovecraft* -- which is not the one I want. My copy of this album, which I've had for 38 years, has a big bite taken out of one side; the songs this makes it impossible to play are their recording of "Wayfaring Stranger" (a reasonably good version) and, on side 2, "The White Ship" (an excellent song that I would like Louie and me to learn). If you have this, could we work something out so you can send me/lend me a tape or a home-burned CD with these two songs on it, or the whole album? This one might work even with my out-of-town friends, though we'd need to do something with the mail. Thanks again.
